Hvar boasts a Mediterranean climate: hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Planning your trip around this is crucial for an optimal experience.
- June & September
- These months are prime. Expect average temperatures of 25-28°C (77-82°F), abundant sunshine, and warm sea temperatures (22-24°C / 72-75°F). Crowds are present but manageable.
- July & August
- Peak season. Temperatures often exceed 30°C (86°F). The island is swamped; beaches, restaurants, and ferries are packed. Booking in August seems straightforward, but in reality, it guarantees queues, premium prices, and less authentic experiences.
- April & May
- Pleasant and mild. Good for hiking and exploring. Sea is cooler (17-20°C / 63-68°F), suitable for the brave. Many tourist services begin opening.
- October
- Still pleasant early on, but weather becomes more unpredictable later in the month. Sea is often still swimmable. Island life slows significantly.
- November - March
- Off-season. Cool, wet, and quiet. Many businesses close. Hvar becomes a local's island; not recommended for typical tourist activities.
