01Why Kornati Works for Couples

Kornati National Park covers 89 islands, islets and reefs, which makes it the densest archipelago in the Mediterranean. The islands are mostly bare limestone with no villages, no traffic and almost no light pollution. Cliffs on the outer islands, called "crowns", drop straight into deep blue water. The park is open year-round, but there are no gates. Every visit is by boat.

That shapes any romantic plan. Dinners, swims and sunsets all depend on the boat you choose, so decide that first.

02How to Get There as a Couple

Group excursion boats

Excursions leave from Murter, Šibenik and Zadar. A full-day tour costs about €35–40 per person. Park tickets are often included. Some operators charge about €20 per person for both Kornati and Telašćica, paid to the captain on arrival. A fast boat from Murter reaches the park in about 40 minutes.

Group boats are cheap, but they make the same stops as everyone else, usually with 40 or more people at midday. For a couple, this is the weakest way to see Kornati. The fixed schedule leaves little time at each stop, and the most photographed viewpoints are busiest between 11:00 and 15:00.

Private skipper-led boat or small charter

A private boat lets you choose the quiet coves and time your swims for early morning or late afternoon, when the crowds leave. It costs more, but for two people it is the better choice. Splitting the cost of a small boat with a skipper is often not much more than two group tickets once you add lunch and drinks.

Self-drive boats

A licence is required for self-drive boats. If you rent one, buy the park ticket in advance.

03Park Entrance Fees in 2026–2027

The park charges per boat, per day, not per person. A boat up to 6.99 m pays €25 in low season (January–May and October–December). In high season (June–September) it pays €45. These prices apply when the ticket is bought in advance outside the park. Buying from a ranger boat inside the park costs €45 in low season and €90 in high season for the smallest class. Boats of 7.00–10.99 m pay more. The 2027 tariff is not yet confirmed, so check the park's price list before booking.

On a contracted group tour, the park share is about €7 per person and is usually included in the price.

04Romantic Dinners on the Water

Several seasonal konobas in the park have their own docks and serve guests who arrive by boat.

Konoba Levrnaka
is on Levrnaka island, in a small cove across from Kornat. It has a private dock with mooring lines, electricity and water. It has been described as a place for a romantic dinner. It is open daily from May 1 to October 15. Plan on about €60 per person with fish and drinks. Some reviewers mention a table reservation charge and a cover charge per person. Ask about both when you book.
Konoba Piccolo
is on Smokvica Vela. It serves traditional home-style Kornati food.
Konoba Žakan
is on Ravni Žakan, in a former fish trading post.
ACI Marina Piškera
has a general store and a restaurant. A small wooden boat crosses the channel to the island.

Book ahead for July and August. Konobas fill their moorings by late afternoon, so arrive by 17:00 to get a dock spot and a table with a view of the sunset.

The islands are best for seafood and lamb. Konoba Beban in Lopatica on Kornat is known for lamb baked under a peka bell. Fish is sold by weight, so ask the price per kilogram before you order. Bottled water can also cost a lot in some konobas.

05Swimming and Snorkeling

Surface snorkeling is allowed throughout the park without a permit. The exceptions are four strict-protection zones, where swimming is banned. The best window is June to September, with water at 20–27°C. June and September have the same water clarity as July, with far fewer boats. Bring your own masks, since most tours supply basic gear only.

06Viewpoints and Walks

The archipelago is largely uninhabited, so walks are on rough stone paths in full sun. Wear closed shoes, and carry water. The hike up the hills behind the konobas is steeper than it looks, so go in the early morning or at sunset. Kornat island also has a hilltop view over the outer crowns.

Telašćica Nature Park

Many excursions combine Kornati with Telašćica Nature Park on Dugi Otok. It has sea cliffs and the Mir salt lake, where the water is warmer than the open sea and suits a gentle swim for two.

07Where to Sleep

The park has no hotels. Couples sleep on a chartered boat, in a seasonal apartment, or on the mainland. Anchoring and overnight stays are allowed in 19 bays, plus ACI Marina Piškera. A night on a moored boat gives access to the stars and a quiet dawn swim. For a simpler option, stay in Murter and make day trips.

08Best Time to Go

May, June, September and early October are best for couples. The park is open year-round, but konobas are usually open only from late spring to mid-October. July and August bring heat and crowds. Entry slots sell out in the peak weeks.

09Insider Tips

  • Buy the park ticket online before you sail. Buying on site costs double for the smallest boat class.
  • Order a konoba table before you arrive. Call or message the day before.
  • Leave the dock by 19:30 in September, since the bays are hard to navigate in the dark.
  • Take cash as a backup. Cards work at some konobas but not all.
  • Pack a sun shade. Most islands have almost no tree cover.
