Smart Spending in Makarska

Makarska isn't inherently cheap, but smart choices make it affordable. Avoid peak season (July-August) for accommodation and activity savings. May, June, September offer excellent weather and lower prices.

Money-Saving Tips

Self-Cater.
Supermarkets (Lidl, Konzum) are your friends. Hit the morning fish market for fresh, cheap seafood. Eating out daily drains funds fast.
Eat Local.
Skip promenade restaurants. Find "Konobas" in side streets or uphill from the center. Their daily specials are value. This works well in theory, but reality is different; many "Konobas" now cater to tourists and inflate prices. Always check menus beforehand.
Walk or Bus.
Makarska is walkable. For further beaches (TuÄŤepi, Brela), local buses are cheap. Taxis are expensive, avoid them unless desperate.
Free Activities.
Beaches are free. Hike Biokovo Nature Park (some trails require entry fee, but many views are accessible). Enjoy sunsets from the promenade.
Book Ahead.
Especially for apartments. Last-minute deals are rare in desirable locations.
