01Best Areas to Stay in Orebić
Orebić is a small town on the western coast of the Pelješac peninsula, facing Korčula across a narrow channel. It is compact: the whole seafront from the centre to Trstenica Beach can be covered on foot. The real choice is between four types of area: the town centre, the Trstenica beach strip, the Bellevue seafront hotel zone, and the hillside streets above the coast.
Orebić Town Centre and Waterfront
The centre is the practical base for anyone without a car. The ferry terminal for Korčula, the main promenade, cafés, bakeries, a supermarket and the bus stop are all within a few minutes of each other. The crossing to Korčula Town is short, roughly 15 minutes, and runs several times a day in summer.
The top-end option here is Heritage Boutique Hotel Adriatic, an adults-only hotel in a 17th-century building right next to the sea. It scores around 9.6 out of 10 on Booking.com from more than 160 reviews, and summer rates generally sit above €150 per night for a double.
Budget visitors will find private rooms and apartments on the streets behind the promenade. Expect €40-70 per night for a double studio in July and August, and €30-45 in shoulder season.
Best for: car-free travellers, day trips to Korčula, couples, restaurant access.
Downsides: the waterfront is busy in July and August when ferry queues and evening foot traffic peak. Beaches directly in town are small.
Trstenica Beach Area
Trstenica is the main beach neighbourhood and the best choice for families. The beach is a long stretch of sand and fine pebbles with shallow water, and the strip behind it is lined with apartments, small guesthouses and beach bars. Many properties are 2-3 minutes on foot from the sand.
Apartmani Zona is one example of the area's value: six units for 2-6 guests, 150 m from Trstenica Beach, with parking, Wi-Fi and air conditioning. Rooms start around €30 per night outside peak season. A shop and bakery are about 200 m away, and restaurants and the centre are also around 200 m.
Beachfront apartments directly on Trstenica are priced higher. Peak-season rates for a two-person apartment are commonly €150-350 per night depending on position and size, so compare units one street back, which are often half the price for a 2-minute longer walk.
Best for: families with children, beach-focused holidays, longer stays.
Downsides: the beach is exposed to the afternoon wind that makes the area popular with windsurfers, so water can get choppy. Parking near the sand is limited in August.
Bellevue and the Seafront Hotel Zone
The Aminess group runs most of Orebić's larger hotels along the coast near Bellevue. The properties are:
- Aminess Vival Grand Azur Hotel
- pine-shaded seafront setting, rooms from about €56 per night in low season.
- Orsan Maradiso Hotel by Aminess
- next to a pebble beach, from about €69.
- Aminess Younique Bellevue Hotel
- built in the early 1930s as the first hotel on Pelješac and fully renovated in 2016, from about €82. Rated 8.9 from more than 250 reviews.
- Bellevue Maradiso Casa by Aminess
- four buildings named after Pelješac wines, all rooms facing the sea, with an outdoor pool. Rated 8.6 from more than 500 reviews.
These hotels share a pebble shoreline, pools and half-board options, and a seafront path leads to the town's restaurants on foot. Rates above are starting prices; July and August typically cost two to three times as much.
Best for: half-board stays, families who want pools and entertainment, guests who dislike self-catering.
Downsides: the beaches are pebble, not sand. Rooms with sea views cost noticeably more than garden or side views, and the difference is worth paying only on the Bellevue Maradiso Casa side, where every room already faces the water.
Hillside Streets Above the Coast
The slopes beneath Sveti Ilija, the mountain behind Orebić, hold many private houses with apartments. Views over the channel to Korčula are the main draw, and prices are lower than on the beach: roughly €45-90 for a double apartment in peak season. A 10-20 minute walk downhill reaches the sea, but the return trip is a steep climb in summer heat.
Best for: drivers, hikers heading up Sveti Ilija (961 m), budget travellers who want a terrace.
Downsides: steep streets, and a car or scooter makes life much easier.
02Orebić Accommodation Compared
| Area | Best for | Typical peak-season cost (double) | Beach type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Town centre | Ferry, restaurants, no car | €60-190 | Small pebble coves |
| Trstenica | Families, swimming | €60-350 | Sand and fine pebble |
| Bellevue seafront | Hotels, pools, half-board | €120-250 | Pebble |
| Hillside | Views, budget, hikers | €45-90 | None nearby |
03Which Area Is Best for Each Traveller
Families with young children: Trstenica. The shallow entry and apartments within a few minutes of the sand make daily logistics easy.
Couples: the town centre waterfront, especially an adults-only hotel, or a sea-facing room in the Bellevue zone.
Budget travellers: apartments one or two streets back from Trstenica, or the hillside. Rooms from €30 are available in shoulder season.
Windsurfers and kitesurfers: the Trstenica side is the practical base for reaching the windy water. Wind conditions are best on summer afternoons.
Travellers without a car: the centre. Ferry, shops and buses are all within walking distance.
04When to Book and What It Costs
- July-August: book 3-5 months ahead for beachfront units. Prices roughly double compared with June or September.
- May-June and September: the best balance of warm sea, open restaurants and lower rates. Many hotels offer rates 30-40% below peak.
- October-April: several hotels and most beach bars close. Private apartments stay available from around €30.
- Tourist tax is charged per person per night on top of the room rate; check whether it is included in the quoted price.
05Insider Tips for Choosing Where to Stay
- The sea-view premium is overrated in the centre. Most travellers overpay for a front-row balcony facing the channel. The ferry traffic and evening noise on the promenade make a quiet room one street back the better purchase, and the view of Korčula is the same from the Franciscan monastery gardens, free.
- Check parking before booking. Free private parking is common in apartments around Trstenica, but central properties often have none. A day in a public lot costs a few euros.
- Choose by wind, not just distance. Afternoon wind builds on the Trstenica side in summer. Mornings are calm for swimming; plan beach time accordingly.
- Ask for a ground-floor or first-floor unit in hillside houses if you are travelling with luggage or small children.
06Getting Around From Each Area
The centre-to-Trstenica walk along the seafront takes roughly 15-25 minutes depending on where you start. Local buses run along the coast road, though schedules are thinner outside summer. Taxis are limited, so confirm pickup times in advance if you have an early ferry or flight. Dubrovnik is about two hours away by road, and many guests arrive by rental car or coach.
