01Which Day Trips from Tučepi Are Worth Taking?

Tučepi sits on the Makarska Riviera, between the sea and the Biokovo massif. That position gives it an unusual spread of options: a mountain, three major islands, two historic cities and a foreign country are all reachable within a day. The main hubs for departures are Makarska (about 5 km north) and the coastal D8 road.

Pick by travel time. Anything under 90 minutes each way (Biokovo, Split, Trogir, Imotski) works as a relaxed day. Anything over two hours each way (Dubrovnik, Krka) is a long day that suits guided tours better than driving.

02Biokovo Skywalk and Sveti Jure

The Biokovo Nature Park reaches 1,762 m at Sveti Jure, the second highest peak in Croatia. The Skywalk is a glass-floored platform at about 1,228 m, with views over the Adriatic and the islands of Brač, Hvar and Korčula. On clear days the Italian coast is sometimes visible.

Distance and time
Roughly 25 km from Tučepi by road, 45 minutes to an hour including a narrow switchback section. Most guided trips last 3 to 5 hours.
Cost
Guided transfers with Skywalk entry start at about €45–€50. Land Rover, quad and cabrio versions run about €65–€110.
Best time
Early morning or late afternoon. Midday in July and August is crowded and hot on the platform.
What to bring
A windbreaker. The temperature at altitude can be 10–15 °C below the coast, even in summer.

The road to the top is steep and narrow. Drivers uncomfortable with hairpin bends should choose a guided transfer.

03Hvar and Brač Islands by Boat

Boat excursions leave from Makarska and nearby harbours, with pickup often arranged from Tučepi. Options include half-day Hvar trips (5–6 hours), two-island tours with lunch on board (about 9 hours), and speedboat tours that combine island stops and a sea cave (about 6 hours). Prices usually fall between €55 and €85 per adult for group tours. Private sailing and self-drive boats are priced per group, with a self-drive boat for up to six people from about €115–€150.

Hvar Town
Venetian harbour, the fortress above the town and the Pakleni Islands for swimming.
Brač
The Zlatni Rat beach at Bol is the main draw, with a pebble spit that shifts with the wind.

Independent travelers can also take ferries from Makarska to Sumartin on Brač. The crossing takes about an hour. Check the Jadrolinija timetable, because sailings are fewer outside the summer season.

Hvar is the better choice for sightseeing and nightlife. Brač suits beach time. A single day doing both is rushed.

04Mostar and Kravica Waterfalls (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Mostar is about 110 km from Tučepi and takes roughly 2 hours by road, longer in summer because of the border crossing. Guided day trips run 8.5 to 11 hours and start at about €50. Tours often add Blagaj Tekija and the Kravica Waterfalls.

Old Bridge (Stari Most)
The 16th-century Ottoman bridge is a UNESCO site. Local divers jump from it in summer.
Currency
Bosnia uses the convertible mark (KM). Many cafés and restaurants also accept euros, but cards are widely used.
Documents
Bring a valid passport or EU ID card. Car rental companies may require a cross-border permission document, so ask when booking.
Kravica Falls
A 25 m high waterfall wide enough to swim beneath. Entry is charged in the high season, so check the current fee on the day.

Go with a guide if the border wait worries you. Self-drivers should leave before 7:30 in July and August.

05Split and Trogir

Split is about 80 km from Tučepi, a drive of about 1 hour 15 minutes by the coastal road, longer in the summer traffic. Guided day trips cost about €30–€35 for transport only. Full-day Split and Trogir tours last about 11 hours.

Diocletian's Palace
A UNESCO-listed Roman complex that is still a living part of the city. Entry to the streets is free. The cathedral and bell tower require paid tickets.
Trogir
About 30 km west of Split, the old town is compact and walkable in 1.5 to 2 hours.
Bus option
Intercity buses run along the Makarska Riviera towards Split several times a day. Journey time is about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours, and fares are typically under €15 one way.

06Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is about 150 km from Tučepi. The drive is 2 hours 30 minutes without delays, and the road passes through the Neum corridor of Bosnia and Herzegovina, so a passport or ID is needed. The Pelješac Bridge now bypasses Neum, so drivers can avoid the border crossing. Check whether your route uses it before you leave.

Group tours last 9.5 to 12 hours and start at about €65–€70.

City walls
The walk around the walls is the best single activity, and ticket prices are high in summer. Book online and go at opening time.
Alternatives
Combine the city with an Elaphiti Islands cruise or a Blue and Green Caves tour, offered as separate excursions.

Dubrovnik is the weakest value for a single day from Tučepi. Most of the day is spent in transit, and a shorter trip to Mostar or Split gives more time on the ground. Stay overnight if Dubrovnik is a priority.

07Krka National Park and Šibenik

Krka is about 170 km away, roughly 2 hours 15 minutes by road. Organised trips take about 8 hours and combine the waterfalls at Skradinski Buk with Šibenik's old town. They are among the best-selling excursions from the Makarska Riviera. Entry to the park is priced by season, with the highest rates from spring to early autumn.

08Imotski Blue and Red Lakes

This is the best self-drive trip for people who avoid crowds. Imotski lies about 60 km inland, around 1 hour by car through the Zagvozd tunnel. The Blue Lake is a karst lake that dries up partially in late summer, and the Red Lake is a deep sinkhole with cliffs about 200 m high. Combine it with a tasting at a local winery, as the area is known for red wines such as Plavac Mali.

Nearby are Zadvarje and the Cetina River area.

09Practical Tips for Day Trips from Tučepi

Pickups
Many Makarska operators collect guests from Tučepi hotels and the main road. Confirm the exact pickup point the evening before.
Driving
On the D8, traffic is heaviest on Saturdays, when many rentals change over. Avoid driving north on those mornings.
Buses
The coastal bus stops in Tučepi on the main road, so the Split and Dubrovnik lines are useful without a car.
Season
Boat and Skywalk trips run mostly from April to October. In winter, choose Imotski, Mostar or Split.
Wind
Strong bora or jugo winds can cancel boat trips and close the Skywalk road. Book flexible tickets with free cancellation.

10Suggested Combinations

Two days
Biokovo Skywalk in the morning plus an afternoon swim, then Mostar the next day.
Four days
Add Hvar, Split and Trogir.
Rainy day
Mostar and Imotski both work well in cloudy weather. Boat trips and the Skywalk do not.
