01Where Is the Best Area to Stay in Tučepi?
Tučepi is a long, narrow resort strung along roughly 4 km of pebble beach below Mount Biokovo. The beach is the spine of the town. The area you pick decides how far you walk to restaurants, how busy the evenings feel and how steep the return from the sea is. The main choices are Kraj, Kamena, Dračevice, Slatina and Gornji Tučepi.
02Tučepi Areas at a Glance
| Area | Best for | Atmosphere | Walk to centre |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kraj | First-timers, couples, restaurants | Lively promenade, harbour | 0–5 min |
| Kamena | Families, mid-range apartments | Residential, calm | 10–15 min |
| Dračevice | All-inclusive hotels, pool holidays | Resort strip | 10–15 min |
| Slatina | Quiet stays, budget apartments | Low-key, local | 15–25 min |
| Gornji Tučepi | Drivers, hikers, view seekers | Old hillside village | Needs transport |
03Kraj: Best Area to Stay in Tučepi for First-Timers
Kraj is the centre of Tučepi. It holds the small harbour, the seafront promenade, most restaurants, cafés, the market stalls and the shops. Many places sit within 20–150 m of the water. Heritage Hotel Kaštelet is the best-known stay here, and small apartment houses fill the streets behind the promenade.
Pros: Walk to everything, no car needed, the most evening atmosphere in town, easy access to boat and water-sports operators.
Cons: Noisier on summer nights, especially close to the promenade bars. Rooms with a sea view cost 20–40% more than those on the inland side.
Typical prices: €70–€180 per night for a double in July and August. €45–€90 in May, June and late September.
Kraj is the right answer for most visitors. Anyone arriving without a car, or staying 3–5 nights, gets the most from the walkable layout.
04Kamena: Calm Beachside Apartments
Kamena is the residential stretch beside Kamena beach. Villa Andrea (Kamena 46) is a popular guesthouse-style stay with high guest scores. Hotel Laurentum and Aparthotel Tamaris are also well-known options in the town's main hotel zone. The area is quieter than Kraj, and the walk along the sea path to the centre takes about 10–15 minutes.
Best for: Families and couples who want to sleep quietly but still reach restaurants on foot.
Typical prices: €70–€150 per night in high season for apartments and small hotels. Laurentum, as a 4-star, sits higher at about €140–€250.
05Dračevice: Large Beach Hotels and All-Inclusive Stays
Dračevice is home to the larger resort hotels. Bluesun Hotel Alga (Dračevice 35) is a 4-star with 327 rooms and 3 suites, last renovated in 2019. It has indoor and outdoor pools, a children's pool, and half-board and full-board options. The beach sits right across the road. The hotel is about 800 m from the town centre.
Official Bluesun rates start from about €48 per night in the shoulder season. Half-board prices for a classic double run from about €49 in late April and October to about €164 in the peak weeks of 18 July–15 August (rates are per room, per night, half board plus tax).
Bluesun Hotel Jadran is the only 5-star in town. It has three outdoor pools, three restaurants and a spa, and sits on its own public beach. Expect €110–€300 per night depending on season and room type. Guest ratings on booking sites are among the highest in Tučepi, at about 9.4/10.
Bluesun Holiday Village Afrodita is a 4-star complex of villas close to the blue-flag beach. It suits families who prefer separate buildings to one large block. Bluesun Hotel Neptun is an all-inclusive hotel in a more remote, scenic setting with a pebble beach and a kids' programme.
Best for: Families wanting pools, entertainment and meal plans, and anyone who values a hotel-managed beach day over restaurant hopping.
Trade-off: Hotel corridors and meal plans reduce the incentive to eat in town. In peak weeks, all-inclusive prices climb sharply, so half board in June or September gives better value.
06Slatina: Quiet and Cheaper
Slatina lies at the end of the beach furthest from Kraj, facing Slatina beach. It has more private apartments and fewer hotels. A walk to the centre takes 15–25 minutes, so a bike, a scooter or a small supermarket habit helps. Studios and apartments here start at about €50 per night in shoulder season and reach €110 in peak weeks.
Best for: Budget travellers, long stays of 7+ nights, and those who want a calmer beach with fewer sunbed rows.
07Gornji Tučepi: The Old Village on the Hillside
Gornji Tučepi (Upper Tučepi) is the original settlement above the coast. Stone houses, terraces and sea views over the Adriatic define it. Distances from the beach run roughly 1.5–3 km, and the road is steep. Many holiday homes and villas with private pools are found here, priced at about €80–€200 per night for apartments and more for whole villas in July and August.
Most travellers overestimate how convenient a villa with a view is. After two days of driving down and parking near the beach in August, the cost in time outweighs the sunset. Choose Gornji Tučepi only with a rental car and a plan to spend more time at the villa pool than at the seafront.
08Best Places to Stay in Tučepi by Traveller Type
- Families with young children
- Bluesun Holiday Village Afrodita, Bluesun Hotel Alga or Hotel Tamaris. Pools, kids' clubs and flat beach access reduce daily logistics.
- Couples
- Bluesun Hotel Jadran for a 5-star setting, or Hotel Laurentum or a small Kraj apartment for a more intimate stay.
- Budget travellers
- Apartments in Slatina or on the inland side of Kamena. Guesthouse-style stays such as Villa Andrea often cost less than hotel rooms of similar quality.
- Nightlife and dining
- Kraj, close to the harbour and promenade.
- Hikers and drivers
- Gornji Tučepi, or any area with parking. The road to Biokovo's Sv. Jure viewpoint starts in Tučepi.
09Prices and Seasons
- May–June and mid-September–early October
- Warm sea, lower rates. 4-star double rooms from about €60–€120.
- July to mid-August
- Highest prices and minimum stays of 5–7 nights on many apartments. Booking three to five months ahead gives the best choice.
- Late October–April
- Many apartments and restaurants close. The big Bluesun hotels run limited seasons, so check opening dates before booking.
10Local Tips for Choosing a Place to Stay
- Check the road between hotel and beach. At Dračevice, the hotel beach is across a small road. It is quiet, but families with toddlers should confirm the crossing.
- Beach type matters. Tučepi's beaches are pebble. Bring water shoes. Sunbeds and umbrellas on public beaches are charged by private concessionaires, while hotel pool loungers are free for guests.
- Sea-view rooms cost more than they are worth in Kraj. The promenade is within a minute or two on foot, so an inland room saves €20–€40 per night.
- Ask about air conditioning and parking. Both are common but not universal in private apartments. Hotels often charge for parking in peak season.
- Check-in in hotels is typically from 3 pm, check-out by 11 am.
- Ground-floor rooms near bars in Kraj can be noisy until after midnight in July and August. Request an upper floor at the back.
