01Which Beaches Are Near Labin?

Labin itself is a hilltop old town, so there is no beach in the centre. All the swimming happens in Rabac, the seaside resort that belongs to Labin. It lies about 5 km below the old town on the east coast of Istria, facing the islands of Cres and Lošinj. Nearly all Rabac beaches are pebble or rock, and the sea is clear.

02Best Beaches in Rabac

Maslinica Beach: best for families

Maslinica is one of the largest beaches in Rabac, about 500 m of pebbles. It has held a Blue Flag, and part of it is adapted for people with disabilities. Pine and Mediterranean forest surround it, and there are restaurants, bars, water sports and water slides nearby. Loungers and umbrellas are rented for a fee.

Girandella Beach: best for facilities

Girandella is the lively option, with beach bars, water sports and plenty of room for families. The resort side has several sections: a sandy-pebble family beach with a Wibit inflatable water park, a quieter pebble beach for couples, and a rocky cove. Dog and naturist (FKK) beaches are also close by, about 300 m and 400 m away.

Lanterna Beach: best for a calmer day

Lanterna is about 500 m from Girandella and within walking distance of the centre. It is quieter than the two big beaches and suits a morning swim before the crowds arrive.

Sveti Andrija (St. Andrea) and Amfora

Sveti Andrija is about 800 m from Girandella and Amfora about 1.1 km. Both are small and mostly pebble and rock. Amfora sits only 500 m from Maslinica, so the two can be combined in one walk along the coast.

Small coves

Beyond the main beaches, small coves along the coast offer more privacy. Prižinja and the two Šeničina beaches lie about 1 to 3 km from the centre. Bring water shoes, since the access is rocky.

03Beachfront Apartments in Rabac

Apartments in Rabac are mostly small, family-run units of 30–55 m². A studio for two with a sea-view terrace starts around €90 per night in Apartments Sea View on Slobode street, and a four-person apartment of 55 m² starts around €110. Cheaper units with only a beach view, such as Apartment Noemi, start around €60. VILLAMAR beachfront apartments sit directly on the sea in Sveta Marina and cost roughly €170–210 per night in high season. They include private parking, which is the main reason people choose them.

Typical prices by season

  • June and September: about €70–120 per night for a two-person apartment
  • July and August: about €100–210 per night
  • Shoulder months (May, October): often below €70

Book beachfront units for July and August by early spring, because the best ones fill first.

04Where to Stay: Rabac Bay or Sveta Marina?

Rabac bay puts restaurants, shops and the promenade within a few minutes' walk. Sveta Marina is quieter and has a better private-sea feel. The bay is the better base for first-time visitors without a car.

Sveta Marina looks like the better value on paper, because it is directly on the water. In practice it is several kilometres from Rabac's restaurants and evening events, so every dinner out means a taxi or a drive. Pick it only if you have a car and want quiet.

05Practical Tips

Parking
Rabac's streets are narrow and crowded in summer. Choose an apartment with its own parking. The paid lot near Girandella costs around €4 for the whole day, and you can leave and return after paying.
Sea temperature
About 21°C in late spring, rising to 26–28°C at the peak of summer.
Footwear
Pebbles and rock make water shoes useful at every beach.
Getting from Labin
The old town is about 5 km above the coast, around ten minutes by car. Combine a morning swim with an afternoon in Labin's old town.
Activities
Kayak rentals, boat trips to Cres and evening waterfront events run through the summer. Padel and tennis courts overlook the sea.
