01How Many Days Do You Need in Supetar?

Two full days cover Supetar and its nearest sights. Add a third day for Vidova Gora and Bol on the south coast. One day is enough only for the town, a swim and a visit to Škrip. Supetar is the main ferry port on the north coast of Brač and has the island's widest choice of restaurants, shops and rooms, which makes it a practical base.

02Getting to Supetar

Car Ferry from Split

Jadrolinija runs the car ferry (line 631) from Split's main port. The crossing takes about 50 minutes. It runs up to 14 times a day in high season, from 05:00 to 23:59. An adult ticket costs €6.50 and a child aged 3 to 12 pays €3.20. A car up to 5 m long costs €26.10, a motorbike €12.90 and a bicycle €6.20. Prices are the same in both directions.

Decision tip: Leave the car in Split if you stay only in Supetar. The town is walkable, and the Arriva buses to Bol and other villages leave from the station next to the ferry dock. Bring a car only for days two and three, or rent one in Supetar for a single day.

03Day 1: Supetar Town and Beaches

Morning: Old Town and Harbour

Start on the harbour promenade, where cafés line the waterfront. Walk the narrow streets behind it and climb the bell tower of the parish church for a view over the roofs and the Split coastline. The church is the main landmark on the harbour and stands out from the sea.

Midday: Cemetery on the Hill

The cemetery on the Sv. Nikola peninsula is a short walk from the centre. It holds mausoleums by the sculptor Ivan Rendić, who is closely linked with Supetar. The Ivan Rendić Gallery in town is a good follow-up if you want more of his work. Wear a hat in summer, as there is little shade.

Afternoon: Swim

The beaches in and around town are mostly pebble with pine shade. Take water shoes. The town beach by the harbour is convenient for families. Walk away from the ferry port along the coast path to find quieter spots.

Evening

Eat fish or lamb in a harbour restaurant. Book ahead for a waterfront table in July and August. In July and August the Supetar Summer Nights festival adds concerts in the church and klapa singing on the square.

04Day 2: Škrip, Splitska and Lovrečina

Škrip and the Olive Oil Museum

Škrip is about 7 km from Supetar and is the oldest settlement on Brač. A bike path runs from the town towards the village, which makes it a good morning ride. The Olive Oil Museum is near the village. A tasting of local oil is the best souvenir stop of the day.

Splitska

Splitska is a small harbour village known for the Roman quarry that supplied stone for Diocletian's Palace in Split. A cycle route links Supetar, Splitska, Lovrečina, Dol and Postira. The loop takes about 3 hours with stops.

Lovrečina Bay

Lovrečina is one of the few sandy beaches on Brač. Ruins of a 6th-century early Christian basilica of St. Lawrence stand beside it. It is calm and shallow, and well suited to children. Bring water and food, because services are limited outside peak summer.

05Day 3: Vidova Gora and Bol

Vidova Gora

Vidova Gora rises to 778 m and is the highest peak on the Adriatic islands. From the summit, views reach Zlatni Rat, Hvar, Vis and Korčula. A drivable road leads to the top. The hike from Bol takes about 2 hours. Go late in the afternoon for the best light, but check the last bus or taxi back before you commit.

Bol and Zlatni Rat

Zlatni Rat, the Golden Horn, is a pebble spit that changes shape with the wind, and it is the most photographed beach on the island. It lies next to the town of Bol. Entry is free, and sunbeds are extra. The beach fills by 11:00 in July and August, so arrive before 09:30.

The Dominican Monastery in Bol is an easy walk along the coast road. Be careful on the road, as pavements are scarce.

Organised Tours

Tours from Supetar combine Škrip, Pučišća and Bol in about 5 hours. Driving yourself is cheaper and more flexible for two or more people.

06Optional Extras

Blaca Hermitage
A monastery in a cliff-side valley, reached by a hike of about 40 minutes after the drive. It suits half a day.
Pučišća
A stone-cutting town with the only stonemasonry school in Europe that teaches with hand-held Roman tools.
Cycling to Sutivan and Milna
The route west is flat to moderate and is a good alternative to the Postira direction.
Mini Zoo (Park Prirode Supetar)
Native animals, peacocks and parrots, useful if travelling with young children.

07Local Tips

  • Skip the midday ferry rush on Saturdays in summer. Arrive in Split early and use the first morning sailings, as car queues grow quickly.
  • Time buses to the ferry. Buses on the island are timed around ferry arrivals, so a late ferry means a late connection.
  • Go in September. The sea is still warm, crowds are smaller, and the Wine Festival offers tastings of Plavac Mali and Pošip.
  • Eat vitalac and hrapoćuša. Vitalac is a lamb offal dish, and hrapoćuša is a local sweet. Both are Brač specialities.
  • Cycle rather than drive between Supetar, Splitska and Postira. Distances are short and the coast road is quiet.

08Best Time to Visit

June and September give the best mix of warm sea and manageable crowds. July and August are busiest and hottest, but they bring the festival season. Outside the summer months, the Jadrolinija ferry still runs at least 10 times a day on most days, so access is reliable all year.

09Budget Snapshot

A day trip from Split costs €13 in ferry fares per adult for the round trip by car ferry. A car on the ferry adds €52.20 round trip. Add bus tickets or fuel for island travel. Beaches, the old town and viewpoints are free, so a self-guided itinerary costs little beyond meals and parking.
