01Best Beaches in Tučepi
The Tučepi shoreline is almost 4 km long, making it one of the longest beaches on the Makarska Riviera. It is mostly pebble, with fine gravel and sand in places. The sea is clear, and the entry into the water is gentle. Pine trees shade much of the promenade that runs alongside.
Kamena Beach (Kraj-Kamena)
Kamena is the best all-round beach in Tučepi. It lies south of the harbor and is a narrow strip of small beige pebbles a little over 600 m long. The centre of Tučepi is about 500 m to 1 km away. A promenade and a pine strip run behind the beach, and about 19 restaurants are within walking distance. Views reach the islands of Hvar and Brač. The water is shallow near shore, which suits children. Water shoes are recommended because of small stones in the water. The beach is busy from mid-July to late August, so arrive before 9:00 for a good spot.
Slatina Beach and the Central Promenade
Slatina beach covers the central part of town, near the harbor and the main promenade. Cafés, shops and a children's playground are close by. Many private apartments sit within 20 to 150 m of this stretch. This is the best area for visitors who want to walk to everything.
Kraljev Gaj (West End)
The western end has small bays among the rocks. It is quieter than the centre and works well for couples and anyone who dislikes crowds.
Dračevac and the Southern End
The southern end beyond Kamena includes Dračevac, a stretch where clothing is optional. Families who want to avoid this should stay between the harbor and Kamena.
Nugal Beach
Nugal is a well-known naturist beach on the Makarska side. It sits below steep cliffs and pine forest. It can be reached only on foot or by boat. Bring water and food, since nothing is sold there.
02Beachfront Apartments in Tučepi
The phrase "beachfront" is used loosely in Tučepi. A property listed 5 to 20 m from the sea is usually separated from the water only by the promenade. Properties 100 to 150 m away are still a 2-minute walk. Prices below are for two adults.
- Budget (€50–€90/night)
- Studios and one-bedroom apartments in family-run houses behind the first row, mostly in Kraj and Kamena. Rates are lowest from June 1 to 12 and after mid-September.
- Mid-range (€90–€150/night)
- Two-bedroom apartments with a sea-view balcony, 20 to 200 m from the beach. Apartments Strada (200 m from Kamena Beach) and Apartments Mira (about one minute from the beach) fit here.
- Premium (€150–€280/night)
- Newly built seafront apartments with large terraces or pool access, 5 to 20 m from the water. A 2-bedroom seafront apartment can reach €240 or more in peak weeks.
Seasonal pricing follows a clear pattern. Peak weeks, roughly July 18 to August 28, cost about 50 to 55% more than early June or late September. Bluesun Hotel Jadran and Villa Marija serve guests who prefer hotel service over self-catering.
Which Area to Choose
- Donji Ratac and the harbor
- Closest to restaurants and shops. Evenings are busier.
- Kraj and Kamena
- Quieter, directly behind Kamena Beach, with the best sea views.
- Dračevice
- Further from the center, with lower prices.
03Opinion: Skip the "First Row" Premium
Paying €60–€100 more per night to be 5 m from the sea rather than 100 m away is rarely worth it. The beach is the same, and the promenade in front of first-row apartments gets noise from late-evening foot traffic in July and August. An apartment 80 to 150 m back, with a balcony and air conditioning, gives better sleep and the same two-minute walk.
04Local Tips
- Book 4 to 6 months ahead for July and August. The best-reviewed small houses sell out first.
- Check for free private parking. Street parking near Kamena is unmarked and fills quickly in summer.
- Kamena has no lifeguard. Watch children closely.
- Makarska is a short drive or bus ride away, so nightlife does not require staying in the busiest town.
- Mid-September has warm sea, lower prices and fewer crowds.
05Getting There
Tučepi lies on the Adriatic Highway (D8), a few kilometers south of Makarska. The nearest airport is Split, about an hour by road. Dubrovnik is about 2.5 hours away. Local buses run along the coast road.
