01Why Baška Voda Works for Couples
Baška Voda sits on the Makarska Riviera between Brela and Makarska. The town is smaller and calmer than Makarska, 10 km to the south, and has a flat seafront promenade, pebble beaches and the Biokovo mountain wall directly behind it. Evenings are quiet, and the island of Brač is visible across the water.
Most couples spend four to five nights here. That is enough for beach days, one mountain trip and one island trip without rushing.
02Best Romantic Things to Do in Baška Voda
Walk the Seaside Promenade at Sunset
The paved, flat promenade runs along the sea and links the harbour on the eastern side with the western beaches. A return walk is roughly 2–3 km. Benches along the route face Brač. Go about an hour before sunset, when the light is soft and the crowds thin out. Cafés along the way suit a drink on the return leg.
Swim at Nikolina Beach
Nikolina Beach has Blue Flag status and natural shade from pines, and it is the best-known beach in town. A statue of St. Nicholas, the town's patron saint, stands nearby. Go before 09:30 in July and August, when loungers and shade are still free. Sunbeds are paid; expect roughly €15–25 for a pair and umbrella in peak season, depending on the operator.
For a calmer swim, Ikovac Beach is 500 m from the centre and has shallow water. Podluka Beach is a similar option.
Visit the Biokovo Skywalk
The glass Skywalk platform sits at 1,228 m on the 13th kilometre of the Biokovo road, with a drop of about 300 m beneath the glass floor. Entry requires a Biokovo Nature Park ticket: €10 off-season, €15 in the main season. The viewpoint is open 08:00–16:00, and the last entry to the park by the Biokovo road is at 15:00. Only 25 vehicles are admitted each full hour, so arrive early. The 13 km drive from the park entrance takes about 30 minutes on a narrow one-lane road with lay-bys roughly every 300 m.
The Skywalk is not the highest point. Sveti Jure, at 1,762 m, lies further along the road.
The Skywalk is worth doing, but a clear morning matters more than the platform itself. Check the weather before you go: cloud makes the trip a waste of €30 and half a day.
Take a Day Trip to Brač
The Jadrolinija car ferry runs from Makarska to Sumartin on Brač, a crossing of roughly 40–60 minutes depending on the vessel. Timetables change by season, so check the current schedule. In high season, fast boats also run from Makarska to Hvar, Bol and other islands. Private boat tours to Hvar and Brač are also sold in town.
Hike or Cycle the Coast
The coastal path between Baška Voda and Brela is a scenic walk and one of the best short couple activities in the area. Makarska is roughly 8–10 km away along a flat coastal cycling route. Wear proper shoes on the narrow sections.
Try Kayaking or Diving
Kayaking along cliffs and small bays and snorkelling in clear water are among the most popular outdoor activities. A diving centre founded by a NAUI instructor operates in town and offers dives for both beginners and certified divers. The Cetina river canyon, a protected area since 1963, offers rafting and kayaking within driving distance.
03Where to Eat for a Romantic Dinner
Seafood dominates the menus. Main courses at mid-range restaurants typically cost €15–30, and grilled fish by weight runs about €60–80 per kilo.
- Del Posto Restaurant
- The top-rated restaurant in town, with Mediterranean dishes and views.
- King Restaurant
- Seafood in the town centre. Book ahead in summer.
- Restaurant Bracera
- Seafood and lamb with a view, good for a sunset table.
- Konoba Panorama
- At the foot of Biokovo, known for peka dishes such as ember-roasted octopus. The road up has sea views.
- Restaurant Mars
- A fish house with grilled octopus, swordfish and tuna.
The real romantic option is a table with a view, not the most expensive menu. Konoba Panorama and Bracera give more atmosphere for the price than any waterfront place.
04Best Time to Visit
- June and September
- Warm sea, fewer people, lower accommodation prices. The best months for couples.
- July–August
- Hot and busy, with the highest prices. Book restaurants 1–2 days ahead.
- April–May and October
- Quiet, but swimming is cold. Biokovo Nature Park is open from April to mid-November.
05Where to Stay
Popular hotels in town include Hotel Horizont, Grand Hotel Slavia and Hotel Noemia. Many couples choose private apartments with a sea-view balcony. Doubles in apartments usually cost €60–110 per night in June and September and €90–160 in July and August.
06Local Tips
- Walk to Nikolina Beach along the coast for the best views, but take sturdy shoes.
- Drive the Biokovo road early. Queues build up from mid-morning.
- Makarska is a 10–15 minute drive for evening bars. Return by taxi if you plan to drink.
- Keep cash for small beach cafés and sunbed rentals.
- Pack a light jacket for the Skywalk, as temperatures at 1,228 m are much lower than on the coast.
07Getting There
Split Airport is roughly an hour away by car. Buses run along the coast to Makarska and Split. A car is useful for Biokovo but not needed for the town itself.
