01How Much Does a Trip to Fažana Cost?

Fažana is a small fishing town on the west coast of Istria, about 8 km north of Pula. It is the departure point for Brijuni National Park, and that drives most of the visitor spending. Costs are lower than in Rovinj, but they rise sharply from July to August.

Daily Budget by Travel Style

Budget
Per person per day (peak season)€50–70
Mid-range
Per person per day (peak season)€90–140
Comfortable
Per person per day (peak season)€160–250

The budget figure assumes a shared apartment, groceries and one inexpensive boat trip. Mid-range adds restaurant dinners and the Brijuni excursion. Prices drop noticeably in May, June and September, and again from October.

02Accommodation Prices in Fažana

Apartments and Guesthouses

Private apartments dominate. A standard apartment near the promenade costs about €110–220 per night in July and August. Small boutique hotels and coastal stays reach €180–350 per night at the peak. Outside July and August, many apartments fall to €60–110.

Most apartments charge a one-off cleaning fee of roughly €30–50 for stays of one or two nights. Check it before comparing nightly rates.

Inland and Villas

Inland properties and agritourism stays within a short drive cost less, about €90–160 per night with breakfast. Villas with a pool for 6–8 guests run €250–550 per night. For a group, this works out cheaper per person than coastal apartments.

Tourist Tax

A local tourist tax is added per person per night. It is small, but it is usually not included in the advertised price, so confirm it at booking.

03Food and Drink Costs

Fažana has a compact waterfront with seafood restaurants, pizzerias and cafés. Waterfront dinners cost €30–80 per person in high season, depending on whether fish is sold by weight. Inland konobas and family-run places charge about €15–40 per person.

  • Coffee: around €1.80–2.50
  • Pizza or pasta: €10–15
  • Grilled fish by weight: often €60–90 per kg
  • Beer in a café: €3–4.50

Fish by weight is the main way a bill gets out of hand. Ask the weight and total price before the fish is cooked.

Supermarkets in Fažana and the larger shops in Pula (about 10 minutes by car) cut costs for self-catering. Istrian olive oil, cheese and local wine from small producers are good-value buys.

04Brijuni National Park Costs

Brijuni is the biggest single expense. The park's own boat from Fažana is the only boat that lands visitors on the islands, and cars are not carried.

The ticket covers the return boat from Fažana, a guide, the tourist train, the safari park and the museum displays. The excursion runs about four hours. A self-guided ticket using the park's app costs €40 in summer and €30 off-season. In high season, an evening entry from 6pm costs €15.

A family of four should budget about €140 in summer for the standard excursion. The €50 price applies through 30 September and drops to €35 on 1 October.

Opinion: Late September is the best value-for-comfort window. You still pay the summer price, but the islands are far less crowded and the boats are frequent. From 1 October the same trip costs €15 less.

Cheaper Boat Tours

Private operators from Fažana harbour run 1.5-hour panorama and glass-bottom tours from about €16–20 per person. Sunset dolphin-watching cruises start around €17–20 and reach about €34 with drinks or dinner. These tours sail around the islands. Some include a swim stop at Jerolim, where park entry is paid separately, about €7 for adults and €3–4 for children, often in cash.

Private charters cost €310–350 for short trips and €500–950 for a full day, which works well split between six to ten people.

Opinion: Skip the €50 excursion if you mainly want to swim. A shared boat tour with a swim stop costs about a third as much and gives more water time. Choose the park ferry if you want the island history and the safari park.

05Getting There and Around

Car
The main cost is fuel and parking. Parking in the centre in summer is limited, so use the larger lots at the edge of town.
Bus
Local buses connect Fažana to Pula, about 8 km away. Fares are a few euros each way.
Taxi or ride-hailing
A ride to Pula typically costs €15–25.
Pula Airport
About 15 km away. A taxi to Fažana costs roughly €30–45.

Fažana is small enough to walk. A car is only worth it if you plan day trips to Rovinj, Pula's Arena or the Istrian interior.

06Beaches and Free Activities

Public beaches are free. Sunbed and umbrella rental is about €10–15 per day. The waterfront promenade, the harbour at sunset and the old centre cost nothing. The Fažana area also has a long pine-lined coast with rocky and pebble swimming spots that need no ticket.

07Money-Saving Tips for Fažana

  1. Travel in late May, June or late September. Accommodation can be 30–40% cheaper than in August.
  2. Book the Brijuni boat early in summer. Slots fill on busy days.
  3. Eat one main meal at lunch. Many restaurants offer cheaper set or daily dishes.
  4. Stay a short walk from the harbour, not on it. A 5–10 minute walk away often lowers the nightly rate noticeably.
  5. Use Pula for bulk shopping. Larger supermarkets there cost less than small local shops.
  6. Carry cash. Some small park fees and boat extras are cash-only.

08Sample Costs for a Couple, 3 Days in July

  • Apartment: 3 × €150 = €450

  • Brijuni excursion: 2 × €50 = €100
  • Extras (coffee, sunbeds, transport): about €60
  • Total: about €760, or €380 per person
