01Best Beaches in Novi Vinodolski

Novi Vinodolski sits on the Kvarner coast, about 35 km from Rijeka Airport. Its beaches are mostly pebble, rock and concrete platforms, not sand. Bring water shoes. The sea is clear and the shore drops gradually in most town bays.

Lišanj: the main town beach

Lišanj lies in the southeast of the centre and is the main town beach. It mixes fine gravel, some sand-like sediment and concrete platforms. It is known for cleanliness and for access suited to families and people with disabilities. Showers, cafés and the promenade are within a few minutes' walk. It is the default choice for anyone staying in the centre.

Lopar and the promenade beaches

Lopar is at the southern exit of town. The small islet of San Marino lies about 150 m offshore, which makes it a popular swimming target. Pine trees give some natural shade. Along the Dr. Franjo Tuđman promenade, smaller stretches such as Rivica and Pod Lopar have concrete platforms with ladder entry. They suit swimmers more than children who want to dig in the sand.

Povile: quieter and cooler

Povile is about 2 km south of the centre. Its beaches combine rock, pebbles and concrete. Freshwater springs rise through the sea floor and keep the water cooler than in town in July and August. Several fish restaurants line the shore and the road above. The shallow, gentle entry works well for young children.

Dog beach at Mala Draga

Mala Draga is a natural pebble bay about 1 km from Povile towards Klenovica. A dirt road below the highway leads to it. A food outlet and a toilet are on site, so a full day with a pet is practical. It is one of the few designated dog beaches in the area.

Škarpun and the quieter coves

Škarpun is a small gravel bay on the way out of town towards Povile. It has a small bar, a toilet, parking and sun lounger rental. Dugno, near Povile, is an unspoiled pebble cove without facilities. Take water and snacks.

Hotel beach: Novi Spa

The Novi Spa Hotel & Resort has about 1,000 m of coast with platforms, pebbles and small coves. Parasols and loungers are for hotel guests from mid-June to mid-September, in limited numbers, weather permitting.

02Beachfront Apartments in Novi Vinodolski

True first-row apartments are limited. Most listings called "beachfront" are 100–500 m from the water, often across a road. Check the exact distance before booking.

Where to stay for the shortest walk to the sea

Old town and harbour
Walk to Lišanj, restaurants and the Frankopan Castle in under 10 minutes. Evenings are lively, so choose a higher floor away from bars if you want quiet.
Between the centre and Lišanj
The easiest area for families. Apartments around Kralja Zvonimira street are roughly 350 m from the beach. Studios start from about €80 per night, and four-person apartments from about €120.
Povile
Quieter, with a short walk to the springs and the fish restaurants. Many apartments have parking, which the centre often lacks.

Typical prices per night

  • Budget: from €40–€50 for two to three guests, usually a little further from the sea.
  • Mid-range: €80–€120 for studios and two-bedroom apartments within 200–400 m of the beach.
  • Premium: €200 and more for sea-view apartments for four with a terrace, mostly in July and August.

Prices rise steeply from mid-July to late August. June and September offer the best value, with warm sea and fewer crowds.

03Local Tips

  • Choose Povile over the town beach on peak August weekends. The springs keep the water cool and the beaches are less busy.
  • Rent an apartment with air conditioning and parking. Both matter in August, and street parking in the centre fills by mid-morning.
  • Do not book on distance alone. A "200 m from the beach" apartment on the far side of the main coastal road is a worse choice than one 350 m away on the seaward side. Crossing the road with children and beach gear becomes tiresome quickly.
  • The nudist beach Kačjak is in nearby Dramalj, so check which beach you are choosing if you want a textile one.
  • Water shoes are worth packing for rocky entries and concrete platforms.

04Getting There

Rijeka Airport on Krk is about 35 km away. Zagreb is roughly 2 hours by car. The town is on the coastal road between Crikvenica and Senj, with local buses along the Kvarner coast.
