01Best Beaches in Podgora

Podgora Town Beach

The central beach runs for about 1 km along the main promenade, in front of the local hotels. It is fine pebble with clear water, and pine trees shade parts of the promenade behind it. This is the most visited beach in town and the easiest base for families, since cafés, ice cream shops and restaurants sit directly above it. Entry is free. Expect to pay around €10–€15 for a sunbed pair in July and August.

Plišivac Beach

Plišivac lies roughly 400 m from the centre and is quieter than the promenade stretch. It is a pebble beach with a short walk from the town, and a separate naturist section exists on the same coast. Visit before 10:00 in peak season for a free spot near the water.

Čaklje Beaches

Čaklje, at the southern edge of Podgora, has an east and a west bay and a small harbour. Water is calm and the crowds are thinner than in the centre. This area suits travelers who want to step from the apartment terrace into the sea.

Nugal

Nugal is a secluded pebble cove under cliffs near Podgora, clothing-optional and reached on foot. Bring water and shoes with grip, because there are no facilities. Sea conditions are best on calm mornings.

Punta Rata in Brela

Punta Rata is about 20 km from Podgora, roughly 25 minutes by car on the D8 coastal road. It has a Blue Flag, pebbles, pine shade and the Brela Rock offshore. Podrače, a smaller cove next to it, is quieter. Go early: parking in Brela fills by mid-morning in July and August.

02Best Beachfront Apartments in Podgora

Where the waterfront apartments are

The main concentration of sea-facing apartments is along Obala Petra Krešimira IV and Branimirova obala, the promenade streets. Units here sit 0–100 m from the beach, with restaurants outside the door. Čaklje offers a calmer alternative, with direct shore access.

Named options

  • Beachfront Apartments Sinajko (Čaklje 77): units of 35 m² (2+1) priced about €60–€150 per night and 55 m² (2+2) about €80–€220 per night, depending on season.
  • Casa Rosada (Branimirova obala 33): about 200 m from Podgora Beach and 400 m from Plišivac, with a garden and free parking.
  • MORE Podgora Luxury Design Apartment: a higher-end option that carries very strong guest scores.
  • Apartments Mia and Apartman Lili: smaller properties that also score highly with guests and sit at the lower to middle price level.

What apartments cost

Basic one-bedroom apartments start around €50–€70 per night in May, June and September. In July and August, expect €100–€220 for a sea-facing two-bedroom unit. Large luxury or design apartments directly on the water can exceed €200 per night in peak weeks. Many small owners require a minimum stay of 5–7 nights in July and August.

03When to Visit

July and August have the warmest sea and the highest prices. Late June and early September offer comfortable swimming with lower rates and fewer people. The sea is usually warm enough for swimming from late May.

04Local Tips

  • Skip the promenade-level room if you want sleep. Most travelers overestimate the value of the apartment closest to the promenade. In summer the café music and foot traffic run late, and a unit 100–200 m back, or one in Čaklje, is usually the better choice.
  • Check the small print for air conditioning and parking. Both are often charged extra by the day in older buildings.
  • Pack water shoes. The pebbles are fine, but the seabed drops quickly in places.
  • Day trips: Brač, home of Zlatni Rat beach, is reachable by ferry from nearby Makarska.
  • Podgora is also home to the Galebova Krila (Seagull Wings) monument on the hill above town, a short walk from the centre and worth the view.

05Getting There

The nearest airport with large international traffic is Split, roughly 80 km away, around 1 hour 15 minutes by car. Makarska is about 10 km north of Podgora and is the closest large town for supermarkets and ferries. Buses run along the coastal road, and the Podgora stop is on the main road above the centre.
