01Why Supetar Works for Families

Supetar is the largest town on Brač and the main ferry port on the island's north coast. It has a flat waterfront promenade, a fruit market, a supermarket, a bus station and the ferry dock within a few minutes' walk of each other. Parents with strollers or tired toddlers can manage the town without a car.

The town is also one of the few places on Brač with sandy beaches. Most of the island's coast is pebble or rock, so this matters for small children.

02Best Family-Friendly Apartments in Supetar

Family stays in Supetar are mostly private apartments in family houses, not large resorts. The features below matter more than star ratings.

What to look for

  • Two bedrooms or a separate sleeping area. Children's bedtimes in Dalmatia clash with late dinners and evening promenades. A door between rooms helps.
  • Air conditioning. July and August nights stay warm, so treat it as essential.
  • Parking. Free parking is not guaranteed in the center in summer. Confirm a private spot before booking.
  • Balcony or terrace. Evenings on the balcony work well for families with kids who sleep early.

Named options

Bartul Apartmani
(Branka Deskovica 2) is a family-run property at the quiet edge of town, next to a forest. It has two 47 m² two-bedroom apartments with balconies and kitchens, sleeping up to 4+1 guests. Sandy Pliva beach is about 2 minutes on foot. Parking, air conditioning and Wi-Fi are included.
Apartments Ivan
is a family-run set of air-conditioned apartments in a quiet part of town. The center is 800 m away and the sea about 200 m. The nearby beach is sandy, and there is a tennis center and a supermarket close by.

Both are small properties with limited units. Book early for July and August.

Location tip

Choose the area around Pliva and Vela Luka over the waterfront by the ferry port. The port area is convenient but loud with vehicle traffic. The quieter residential edges are only a 10-15 minute walk from the promenade.

03Best Beaches for Kids in Supetar

Vela Luka Beach

Vela Luka is sandy with shallow water that stays calm. It is the strongest choice for toddlers and non-swimmers.

Pliva Beach

Pliva is a sandy beach on the quieter side of town. It suits families staying in the residential apartments nearby.

Banj Beach

Banj is the town's most popular beach. It is pebbly at the entrance, but the bottom turns sandy after a few meters. Playgrounds and cafés are close by.

Tri Mosta (Tri Bridges) Beach

Tri Mosta is a pebble beach by the Waterman resort. It has bars and rental equipment for SUPs and other water sports. It suits children aged about 8 and older.

Most visitors think of Supetar as a ferry stop rather than a beach town. For families, the beaches are the main reason to stay.

05Day Trips from Supetar with Children

Bol and Zlatni Rat.
The famous Golden Horn beach is on the south coast. Supetar to Bol by taxi costs about €60-75 per car and takes around 40 minutes. Public buses are cheaper but slower. Most children enjoy the beach more than the drive, so plan one Bol day, not several.
Vidova Gora.
The highest peak on the Adriatic islands is reachable by car and suits older children who like views.
Blaca Hermitage.
This monastery in the Brač interior requires a long walk or boat trip. It is suitable for children aged 10 and over.
Škrip.
The Museum of Brač in Škrip is a short, low-effort stop with Roman-era history and olive oil exhibits.
Split.
The ferry lands next to Diocletian's Palace (UNESCO), which makes an easy half-day when combined with the crossing.

06Getting to Supetar with Kids

The Jadrolinija car ferry (line 631) runs from Split's main harbor to Supetar in about 50 minutes, up to 14 times a day in high season, between 05:00 and 23:59. In 2026, an adult pays €6.50, a child aged 3-12 pays €3.20, and children under 3 travel free. A car up to 5 m long and 2 m high costs €26.10, and the driver pays a separate passenger fare. A car with two adults therefore costs €39.10 one way.

The Krilo catamaran carries only foot passengers. It takes about 20 minutes and costs about €10 per person.

Insider tip: Foot passengers almost always board without trouble. Cars cannot be reserved on this line, so July and August queues of an hour or more are common. Arrive before 09:00 or after 19:00.

Opinion: Most families do not need to bring a car. Supetar's beaches, market and apartments are within walking distance, and parking plus the car fare add €26.10 each way. Rent a car for one day or take a taxi to Bol instead.

08Practical Tips

  • Pack water shoes for Banj and Tri Mosta. Pebbles and sea urchins are common on rocky edges.
  • Bring a beach umbrella or arrange shade in advance. Natural shade on Vela Luka is limited.
  • Buy groceries in the supermarket and at the fruit market rather than in tourist cafés.
  • Check that the apartment price includes tourist tax, end cleaning and linen. Some hosts include these and some charge extra.
