01When Is the Best Time to Go to Supetar?

Supetar is the main port town on the north coast of Brač, 50 minutes from Split by car ferry. The best balance of warm sea, manageable crowds and fair prices falls in two windows: late May to mid-June and September to early October. Both avoid the July–August peak, when rates are highest and the waterfront is full.

This guide gives the overall verdict. It compares seasons by weather, crowds and cost rather than going month by month.

03Weather, Crowds and Price: How They Trade Off

Weather. Summer highs average around 27–28°C in July and August, while June and September sit near 24°C. That gap matters on a pebble-and-rock coast with limited natural shade. October highs still reach about 20°C, which suits walking but is marginal for swimming in the second half of the month.

Crowds. Supetar is the busiest ferry arrival point on Brač. Because Split is a short crossing away, the town takes day-trippers as well as long-stay guests. Crowd levels stay high from June through September and drop clearly in October.

Price. Hotel rates in Supetar average roughly three times higher in summer than in winter. Booking data shows hotel averages of about €100–110 per night across the year, climbing past €280 in the peak summer months and falling to about €80 in the cheapest period. Rentals can be around 45% cheaper outside the peak. Treat these as averages: a well-placed seafront room in August costs far more than a flat a few streets back.

04Why Late May–June and September Win

Both windows share the same advantages:

Swimming is comfortable.
The sea is warm enough by June and holds its heat through September.
Services are fully open.
Beach bars, boat trips and restaurants run their summer schedules.
Ferries run on the main timetable.
Jadrolinija line 631 operates up to 14 sailings a day from 05:00 to 23:59 between 1 June and 30 September. The Krilo catamaran adds a roughly 20-minute foot-passenger crossing for €10.
Prices are lower.
Hotel rates fall noticeably against July and August.

September has the edge for swimming, since the sea has been heating since early summer. Late May and June have the edge for daylight and the lowest chance of rain.

05Why July and August Are Hard to Justify

Most travelers overestimate how much they need peak-season heat. In Supetar, the premium for July and August buys the most expensive rooms, the fullest ferry decks and the least comfortable midday temperatures, not better beaches. The only good reason to come then is school-holiday dates that cannot move.

If summer dates are fixed, book accommodation early. Plan swims for morning or after 17:00, and visit Bol or the island interior outside midday.

06Spring and Winter: Who They Suit

April to mid-May suits hikers, cyclists and visitors who want a working Dalmatian town without crowds. The sea is still cool, so swimming is a bonus rather than the plan. Rain is more likely than in summer.

November to March suits people who want low prices and quiet. Expect fewer restaurants and bars open, shorter ferry timetables and cool, wet weather. Dec–Feb averages sit near 8°C overall, with highs around 11–13°C.

07Ferry Costs by Season

The Jadrolinija car ferry uses two pricing seasons in 2026: lower (1 Jan–31 May and 1 Oct–31 Dec) and high (1 Jun–30 Sep). Visiting just outside the high-season dates saves money on transport too.

Adult foot passenger
Lower season€4.40
High season€6.50
Child 3–12
Lower season€2.20
High season€3.20
Bicycle
Lower season€4.30
High season€6.20
Car up to 5.0 m
Lower season€18.20
High season€26.10

The Krilo fast catamaran costs €10 one way for foot passengers year-round. Check the current year's published fares before booking, as they are updated annually.

08Local Tips for Timing a Trip

Take the early sailings in summer.
Arrive 45 minutes before a car-ferry departure; the Split port queue grows through the morning.
Choose weekdays.
Hotel prices rise on Friday and Saturday nights, with weekend rates well above weeknight rates.
Switch to a shoulder-season day trip.
From Supetar, Split is reachable by catamaran in about 20 minutes, and the last return leaves Split around 19:00.
Shift your dates by a week.
Moving a stay from late July to early September can cut accommodation costs by a large share without losing swimming weather.
Check what is open.
Outside June–September, confirm restaurant and boat-tour opening times before arrival.

09Bottom Line

For most visitors, early to mid-September is the strongest single choice. The sea is warm, the ferry timetable is still full, and rates fall week by week. Late May to mid-June is the best alternative if you prefer long daylight and a fresher sea.
