01Why Tučepi Works for Couples

Tučepi is a small resort village on the Makarska Riviera, about 80 km southeast of Split Airport by road and roughly 5 km from Makarska. The village sits between the sea and the Biokovo mountain wall. Its main beach runs for around 4 km, mostly pebble, with clear water and little of the nightlife noise found in Makarska. Couples get sea, mountain and dinner terraces within a few kilometres.

The village has two parts. The lower part, along the coast, has the promenade, marina and hotels. Upper Tučepi (Gornje Tučepi) is a quieter hillside area with old stone houses and views over the sea.

02Best Time to Visit as a Couple

June and September are the best months. The sea is warm, restaurant terraces are open, and the beach is not packed. July and August bring the highest prices and the most crowds. May and October are quiet, and sea swimming is cooler, but hiking and dining work well. Many seasonal venues close or cut hours from late October.

03Romantic Things to Do in Tučepi

Walk the Promenade at Sunset

The coastal promenade links the marina with the beach and cafes. Allow 45–60 minutes for an easy evening walk. The marina area is the most pleasant spot to watch the light change over the water. The walk costs nothing and works well before dinner.

Swim and Relax on Tučepi Beach

The beach is pebble, so water shoes are useful. They cost about €8–15 in local shops. Cold showers along the shore let you rinse off. Rental sunbeds with an umbrella usually cost €15–30 per pair depending on the season and location. Walk away from the hotel sections to find calmer stretches.

Visit the Biokovo Skywalk

The Biokovo Skywalk is a glass-floored walkway in Biokovo Nature Park at 1,228 m, overlooking Makarska, Tučepi, Podgora and the islands. The route up is a long, narrow, winding mountain road. Go early, ideally before 9:00, for cooler air and clearer views. Park entry is about €10–15 per person depending on the season, so check the current fee before going. Guided tuk-tuk and jeep tours from Makarska and Tučepi run about three hours and include stops and local tastings. They are a better choice than driving if either of you dislikes mountain bends.

Take a Boat Trip

Boat tours and water sports such as parasailing and jet skis operate from the beach and marina in season. Private boat charters let two people reach quiet bays and Brač or Hvar day trips. Group excursions are cheaper. Private skippered boats cost considerably more, so ask for the all-inclusive price before booking.

Cycle or Walk in the Hills

The village has marked bike tracks, and upper Tučepi offers short walks past old stone houses and olive groves. A walk up through the old hillside hamlets gives sea views without a car.

04Where to Eat: Romantic Restaurants in Tučepi

Restaurant Jeny in Gornje Tučepi holds the highest traveler rating in the village (4.9★) and is the top pick for a special-occasion dinner. Book ahead in summer and arrange a taxi for the return trip.

Konoba Ranc serves seafood and grilled meat at tables under old olive trees. The setting suits a relaxed evening and the prices stay moderate.

Kamena is on the beachfront, about 50 m from the water. It serves Mediterranean seafood, and live guitar music at low volume has been a feature on some evenings. Conversation stays easy.

Restoran Gajeta and Restaurant Riva overlook the marina and promenade. Both focus on fish and work well for an early sunset table.

Konoba Jabuka sits on a hill with a charming, simple setting. Note that restaurant opening dates change from year to year, so confirm by phone before a long walk uphill.

05Where to Stay

Tučepi has several 4-star hotels along the sea, including Bluesun Hotel Alga and Bluesun Hotel Jadran. Many couples prefer private apartments in upper Tučepi for the quiet and the views. In peak season, expect about €120–250 per night for a sea-view double room at a hotel and about €70–140 for a private apartment. In June and September, prices are often 20–30% lower.

06Local Tips

  • Most visitors overrate the beach and underrate upper Tučepi. The pebble shore is pleasant, but the best evenings happen on the hillside, so book at least one dinner there.
  • Shoulder-season visitors should check opening hours; some kitchens close by 22:00.
  • Carry cash, as small beach bars and sunbed operators sometimes do not take cards.
  • Take a light jacket to the Skywalk. The summit can be 10–15°C cooler than the coast.
  • Makarska is a short taxi or bus ride away for a livelier night out, but sleeping in Tučepi is quieter.
